Please help with what I believe to be an issue with my evaporator that I hope will not entail a lost weekend to its replacement...
A full recharge will result in approximately 1/2 hour of cold air. The compressor cycles correctly, yet I see the 134a recharge liquid literally flowing out from the under dash area in two spots. Guess what... once it stops pouring, its no longer cold!
In short, since the evaporator is working, am I perhaps only looking at loose connection, and not a lost weekend or out $1400 at the dealer? Or is this indicative of a more serious issue?
Thanks so much for your help!
Dave

The evaporator connections are in the engine compartment. You will need a spring lock tool. The two pipes that protrude through the firewall are part of the evaporator.

Thanks, Jot!
Does this mean that because both the connections and evaporator are in the firewall, I'm looking at major work just to tighten the connections; i.e., taking the dash off, etc., or is there anyway to get under by the exhaust and work up, leaving the evaporator where it is? The two horizontal lines you mention to the evap are in good order, yet the fluid escapes from under the firewall (as we'd expect, only wished that it was excess water, NOT the 134a too
) )
Again, I appreciate your expertise on this one! I'm a grease monkey, yet with experience on old Mercedes diesels. It appears as though I may have gotten bitten on this:)
