I want to build a decent diagnostic and possble re-flasher on a good powerful W7 laptop although I can stay XP if necessary. I see software (2010A) on-line at ebay, I see the J2534 interface mentioned. Some of you folks are pretty hard-core so I want to ask, what would you recommend for building a good open-platform diagnostic tool for the volvo (using vadis) and maybe something more generic for my other OBD vehicles.
My primary use would be in 96 and up Volvo's and maybe Subaru. I'm not yet thinking of a re-flash but once I get my next V70, v70R, 850 or 850R I want to play. The car I'll be pushing to the limit is a 98 V70 w/LPT and a disconnected AWD. I want the software to run without having to play games with the computer's date and I want the connection to OBD to get real time running information. I currently have an old Autoenginuity setup the works through a serial port on an old laptop. Serial ports are sort of hard to find now and the serial/usb connectors don't want to work properly with the autoenginuity setup. Any of you familiar with the AutoEnginuity platform, that's what I want to build but also with flash capability.
Thanks for any and all advice, post links as necessary to maybe re-direct me to better resources for OBD info too.

All VIDA and the (older VADIS) versions available for "non-subscription users" are 'modified' e.g. cracked.
Some install procedures involve a temporary System Time change, which only serves the purpose of installing the code. Once you're done installing, you will revert your System time back to real time, and this should not be a concern since you computer functionalities including OBD will have real time attributes and timestamps.
Depending on how much you will be using it, the subscriber version with online authentication is required to load Volvo software, (it's gonna cost some.) The original DiCE also has usable Bluetooth connectivity.

Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Thanks. Good stuff. I'll join up and ask around. the AE has been and is a good machine, helped a lot on my old v70 and still used on my current one and a subaru. I did buy a $25.00 special for the v70 since the same light keeps coming back and I know what the problem is. I need to get another v70 that I can have off the road for playing with. These cars are fun to screw with.

Yes, they are.rmmagow wrote: These cars are fun to screw with.
Ethical hacking is always rewarding because of its purpose - to improve a system's performance or efficiency by unlocking features or by adding to it, altering its behaviour, so that we can get the most of its hardware
