I've got a 2002 S60 T5 (manual trans) that I bought in 2004 with 56K miles, and it now has 196K miles. I've maintained it well and it runs great. I've recently purchased a 2004 V70 (non turbo) from my uncle. The car has 117K miles and has also been maintained well. I also have a 1997 Infinity QX4 SUV with 125K miles. Since I don't need three cars, I intend to sell either the Infinity or the S60. My preference is to hold on to the S60, despite it having almost 75K more miles than the Infinity.
My wife drives the V70 and it's the vehicle we use for trips, and I'm going to keep one of the other cars to drive around town. The question I'm asking myself is which car, the S60 or the Infinity, is going to cost me less in maintenance and running costs over the next 100K miles?
Since this is a Volvo board, I expect a heavy bias toward keeping the S60, and that's largely what I want to do as well. I love the car. It's safe, has new tires, and the cam belt, tensioner, and water pump were changed in the last 20K miles, so it's got a while to go before any big scheduled maintenance is due.
However, the Infinity has also proved to be a vary reliable car. In the three years I've owned it, I've put an O2 sensor on it and a water pump. That's it. The engine is very sound, and I believe it's the same V6 that was in a Maxima that I put over 200K miles on, and that engine was relatively problem-free.
The main reason for this post is to hear from other people with a P2 platform car that have experience with 200-300K miles on their cars. This is new territory for me, since my MO up to this point was to put 200K miles on my car and then sell it. Other than scheduled maintenance items, is there anything that tends to happen to P2 cars in the 200K-300K range that I should be concerned with? On the one hand, the S60 get better gas milage than the Infinity (15 MPG, if I'm lucky), which is why I plan to sell it. I just don't want to keep the S60, and then have a $1-2K repair bill hit me due to a time bomb that I didn't know about.
Thoughts on selling my S60

Most folks here have gobs of miles logged and plan to keep their cars till they die.
I've got 223,000mi on my 2001 V70 and about 26mpg in mixed driving.
Check Cars.com to check the market in your area.
Advertise the two you care to part with and see which one sells first closest to your asking price or gets the most attention.

Not worth much with nearly 200K miles, so unless you want a new car you may as well keep it until it dies
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

Sell the Infiniti. My friend had one of those...absolute gas hog with the appetite of a Suburban.
We're keeping the s70 that has been an amazing car until it bites the dust, and even at 220k, it still runs amazingly.
One major repair may be a clutch sometime in the future. They generally last something just over 200k.

Yeah, I'm about 90% certain that I'll sell the Infinity at this point, mainly due to the great condition of the S60, and the poor gas milage of the SUV.
Due to the low miles for it's age, the Infinity is actually worth a bit more anyway.
jblackburn, any idea what a clutch replace is going to cost me?
