Alternator connections

Post by Horseface »

I have had a recurring problem with a wire connecting the alternator to the battery. I own a 1986 240 wagon. There are two wires that run from the alternator to the battery, a thick red one and a thin yellow one. The yellow one has snapped twice at the alternator end. (The thick one is also pretty freyed and could do with replacing). The first time I had a mechanic repair. It just snapped again and I think I'm going to try to replace it myself.

Any advice. What's the wire called? How difficult is this to do? It looks easy enough but I have zero experience.

First figure out why it's snapping. Are your motor and tranny mounts decent?

Yes, it's an easy fix. Pull the battery first so you don't wind up a crispy critter. :D
