AC Blowing hot air

I just bought this car and it blows hot air when the ac is on. At first it blew semi cool air, but I think it may have just been ambient air from outside. It does need freon, but the guy I took it to recharge the system said that the electric fan wasn't working. I have been reading the blogs, any ideas? Thanks.

Which fan was he talking about? The interior cabin blower or the radiator fan? The radiator fan won't turn on until the A/C is charged and the system is up to good operating pressure.

That's what I thought as well, he said the radiator fan. I took it to a place to charge the freon and they wanted to a $150 diagnostic to see why the fan wasn't working. I am considering charging the system myself or just taking it to my mechanic. From what I have read I think you are correct by just charging the system. Thanks

The electric fan won't cut on until the AC system pressure reaches the proper level in these cars. That means the compressor needs to be running and not cycling on and off on and off.

If the compressor is cycling presently, add more refrigerant and see what happens.

I'm wondering if you may have a clutch gap problem - sometimes people will get cool air for a few minutes and then the clutch on the compressor stops engaging.
