How to remove upper rear seat backs?

Last time I tried to get one of those unclipped I think I spent a years worth of energy and still failed. It looks easy enough, just hold the spring tab back and pull. But I couldn't get it. Now I've found a seat back I'd like to harvest but would like to know how to go about it.
Help appreciated.

No, that's not it. You really need two people but one can do it.

1. You lay the seat down.
2. You shift the seat back towards the door. You can use a crow bar or put your hands between them and push it.
3. While pushing it you lift up on the end that is closet to the door and it will lift out.
4. After the outter side is free pull it out from the center stud.

respi: I'm trying to visualize your instructions. Let's say the bench people sit on is removed—it is in the case. Now I release the latch and fold the back forward flat on the rear deck where the bench was.

From there, I'm confused. Should I push the seat back sideways toward the door on that side? Then watch for when the peg gets free and lift it out of the socket?

Then the peg on the other side just slides out?

Kinda. Yes you fold the seat down, then slide it a little towards the side but I don't think you'll see it move. While you are pushing lift up on the end closest to the door.

Just for grins I pulled a seat back yesterday. I tried to record it be it was impossible to hold the phone and pull the seat back. It took me about 45 seconds. If you still need help or would like a video let me know. I'll have my wife or daughter hold the recorder for me. It is a little easier if you pull the side bolster, they pull out from the top and lift out.

I just tried what I thought you were describing and still can't get the seat pins to release. I used a flat bar to pry between the seat backs toward the door but the seat back doesn't seem to move at all and I couldn't lift the door side out of whatever's locking it.

So I'm missing something here and making it harder than it should be.

The video would really help if you could get it.

btw: are the back seats the same in both sedan and wagon?

I answered my last question at the upull—the seat-back uppers are different on the station wagon and sedan. Now I'm wondering if the '96 sedan beige leather back seat ensemble would fit in my '93 sedan. That would up-class it a bit. Does anyone know?

Still haven't been able to get the uppers out. I tried it on my station wagon and couldn't get it to move and lock from the door side. I used a flat bar to pry the smaller left side, wedging the bar into where seatbacks meet at the break.

I really want to understand this

Grrrrrrrrrr... I tried to video me taking the seat out of my wagon and I coldn't get it out. I think something inside is wrong or the clips are bad. I'll have to try again when I get some help. I could hear the clip click when I shifted the seat but I could not lift it out. I'll try again when I get some help.

Thanks, for the effort, Robert. I feel somewhat exonerated. There must be just right way to catch it that you got before. I'll try again, too, maybe we'll figure out what that is.
