windshield pillars peeling
windshield pillars peeling
has anyone else had the problem of the fabric peeling off the A pillars on either side of the windshield? I have an 09 S60 that the pillars were replaced at 25000 miles for this problem and now the fabric is peeling off again at 37000. All my windows are tinted to the max legal limit for Texas and I use a sun shield that doesn't even come in contact with the pillars. I don't know what else to do to keep the sun and heat off the pillars or if that is even the problem. I have a 97 850 wagon that the A pillars are a solid plastic like the rest of the interior trim and have never had that problem. I would really like to find a solution before the car is out of warranty, 50K or 5 years.

Not familiar with the newer S60's but if its adhesive, maybe try something a little stronger. Might not be OEM, but It should hold better. Again, its not my box of rocks. Just a thought.

My 01 S60 has the plastic trim pieces on the A-pillars
My 07 S60 has the fabric covered trim pieces on the A-pillars
The latter are still secure and smooth and show no signs of separation. So, I think you may have had some bad luck with a batch of adhesive or something. It doesn't seem like an inherent design flaw.
One thing to be aware of - if the underlying substrate is contaminated (oil or greasy film from the factory), this will definitely make the adhesive come loose sooner. Since it happened twice to the same pillar from two different sources, I would suspect that's the problem.
Take it back to the dealer.

My coworker has an 07 S60 and I've noticed it having this problem. Probably because it gets parked in the hot California sun.

Maybe install some of the earlier hard plastic A pillar covers instead--the non cloth-covered ones from 01-04 cars. Not as luxurious, but you avoid the peeling issue. I believe the color is the same.

Isnt there an airbag release near there that might be impeded slightly?

I spoke to the senior parts guy at my dealer, as sharp as anyone in the service department. He said that Volvo has acknowledged the problem and that they have over 500 back orders for an improved design pillar.

I've replaced them with the earlier hard plastic/vinvl ones and they match perfectly!
No airbag issue
Nothing is in there except a ticket clip holder on the left side
