850 Cruise Control - Got Lucky!

Troubleshooting is a good thing!.

The cruise control on our new-to-us '93 850 (5-speed) didn't seem to work at all. I made sure I was following the instructions in the owner's manual. Still, nothing. I read several posts on this forum and found a procedure HERE.

I checked the vacuum pump and hoses under the battery. To get a better look, I unplugged the assembly and took it inside. It all looked good. Reconnected, it seemed to operate when jumpered at the control/fuse box. The pump worked, the vacuum held.

I came to the step that required a road test, trying to engage the cruise control, followed by checking the codes without shutting down the engine.

What do you know? The cruise control worked just fine. It set, held, and adjusted up and down as it should.

My best guess is that in disconnecting and reconnecting the control and the pump, a bad connection was cleaned enough to work properly.

That is strange, lucky. Why would it work jumping it and not work, then pulling it and reinstalling it make it work. Nice shot.
