Key fob module: have it flashed?
i bought a complete xc70 parts car that came with a key fob, my question is if i switch the module from the xc to my v70, with the fob unlock my doors, or will i still have to have it flashed?

Sorry. A module swap is a no go.
The 98 vs '99-'00 are different systems.
You can use the '99 fob, but you'll
need a dealer to add it to the '98.

Actually the VGLA system is the same. The answer is still no, don't change it though.
98 required access codes (PIN's) to be used with the Volvo Scan Tool to program remotes and make settings changes.
99 and later 800 platform models use VIDA to do those things. To make the sales and handling of the access codes be more automatic they treat those access codes as software. So the 99 up require VIDA and a software purchase to program remotes and make settings changes. The 99 module will install and work with that one remote but anything you ever wanted to do in the future would be roadblocked.
So to answer: you need to go to a dealer and they can add your remote. The access code for programming remotes is on their VIN lookup system in the same place as key codes and is not charged. The ones for settings changes is handled through parts and Volvo charge the dealer for those.
