1996 960 Check Engine Code PO740
1996 960 Check Engine Code PO740
My 960 runs fine, but makes an audible groaning sound when shifting into the high/overdrive gear. Maybe once every other month it will mis-shift and go into "limp" mode, the check engine light comes on, the up arrow on the dash flashes and the indicator lights by the shifter (E,S & W) flash. I pull over, turn the car off, turn it on and we're good to go for another month or so...except the "check engine" light won't go out. Had a local guy check and he pulled a PO740 Code (Torque Converter ...) but that is a generic code so I took it to the dealer. He said no problem and cleared the code and light went out ... for about ten miles. It's back on but the car runs/shifts fine. Under the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" category, I don't want to bother with this until it's a real problem but would like the check engine light out...i think in NYS it won't pass inspection with a check engine light on. Any idea how to get the light off, or what this might mean that I'm missing would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
