Engine will not turn over.

Starter will not engage engine when key is turned. Engine will start when starter is jumped from beneath. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply. I know very little regarding engines and even less regarding foreign cars. What is a PNP swithch and where is the ignition switch? My son will be doing the work.

The PNP is the start inhibitor that prevents the engine from being started when the shifter is any position other than park or neutral. The ignition switch is on the steering column directly opposite of the ignition lock cylinder on a 960. The ignition switch can be found after removing the lower cover on the steering column.

Volvos will not start unless there is oil pressure. Check the oil
