2000 V40 w/ turbo- sometimes hard to start

So, my son's girlfriend is driving this car- 107K miles on her now. Did the timing belt and water pump a month ago...also replaced the upper coolant hose that was broken. It has been flawless, however, just recently it's been hard to start sometimes. Could be the change in weather? Battery is fairly new. I recommended her put the key to position II for a min or two and then crank, giving the fuel pump a chance to get fuel to the rail- still today, she said it took her several times and about 10 minutes to get the car started. I'm not sure what gives....maybe the fuel pump going out, a bad relay? Anyway, it sounds like it's going to start and catch but it doesn't. Today, after starting, it immediately died and then it was several minutes and attempts before she started.

I was hoping it used the same fuel pump relay as my S70 but it doesn't.
The car started right up when I tried it... maybe fuel filter- I don't think it's ever been changed.
The battery posts looked a bit oily- from what, who knows (but we just got this car about 6 weeks ago).
So I cleaned them and re-tightened the cables. We'll see if there's a change.
