Beacause it was srs related it was off to the stealership, luckly there was no charge.
Here is what they found, they said they didn't know what casued it and it may never happen again.

cem 1a56 com with dim control module signal missing dtc is found not active
ecm 660b MIL signal missing dtc is found not active

Please help I feel really bad talking my best friends into buying a volvo then this happens
I'm no mechanic but I know my way around a tool box so I hope I can help them keep it out of the stealership

I do not know what's going on either but it sounds suspiciously like it could be an ignition/key tumbler issue....Typically SRS lights can only be turned off by the Dealer (someone correct me if I'm wrong)...so, if this is the case, I would go back to the dealer and see if moving the key around in the ignition will resurrect the missing signals so that they can turn off the SRS light. If moving the key around makes a difference, then you will need to replace the ignition switch and your issues should be solved.
I'm hoping that someone else who has had the same thing happen can chime in. When ignition switches go bad all kinds of strange electrical glitches occur- such as what you described with the radio, climate control and dash lights.

Please do let us know what's up. I have a friend who has the same issue and he just parked it to start saving money to take it to the shop. It's an 04' S60, but does basically the same thing.

CAN bus issues can best be fault traced using VIDA. VIDA has THE best tools to trace the issue. Not any magic tools but the best there is.
The problem fits the classic symptoms of a low speed network module going down and taking the network communication down.
The other modules on that CAN segment go down as programmed.
When the network is functioning again there will be a lengthy set of codes. Sometimes the analysis of global time and ignition cycle counts for the faults can lead to a module that sticks out as the one causing the problem. If the problem is regular enough the modules can be taken off network to see if network communication stays on with that module unplugged or unplugged with network leads jumpered if it is a pass-through module.

I bought my Chinese vadis and dice from Dino Direct. Works great and was purchased to clear codes from some numb nuts taking stuff apart with the battery connected before i bought the car.
Chinese vadis worth every penny.
Word to the wise it requires windows xp 32 bit and 2 gigs ram to install but will run on less ram once installed ( I tried it )
