Post by difflock54 » Mon Oct 29, 2012 8:15 pm

Purchased from Licensed Motor Trader 16 April 2012 with mileage at 85,883 kilometres.
Import ex. Japan to NZ. Supplied with WOF, serviced with oil and new filter.

ECC module at centre dash console and also Headlight switch had several T4 Neo wedge rear illuminating bulbs out so replaced all with white LED's. August 2012. ( $5.00 each from www.LEDbulbs.co.nz )

Failed WOF inspection 25 October 2012. due to both front brake hoses being badly cracked at couplings :o , right side foglight bulb blown and a small square drive screw imbedded in front right tyre.
Hoses replaced with Professional Parts-Sweden OEM equivalent hoses and brakes bled. (by self)
Foglight bulb replaced . H1. 12volt. 55w. (by self)
Tyre removed and puncture repair carried out by local Tyre Shop.
Vehicle then presented to VTNZ for a recheck inspection 30 October 2012. Approved and Passed WOF. (88,676 kms.)

4 March 2013.

Another bulb blown. This time the left side low beam. Removed Phillips standard type H.7. 12V 55w halogen.
Decided probably the start of a run of failures so have replaced all low and high beam bulbs with
Super Whites of 12V 55W. Not OEM however just ex China JIANG CHI. $14.00 a pair. ISO 9001 - 2000.
Quite apparent improvement to light output over the standards as the reach on unlit roads at night has not prior to changeover been impressive when compared to some past vehicles I have owned.

31/05/2013. Current mileage 92,388km's.
Finally opted to stick with proper Volvo radio headunit in lieu of aftermarket as the dash design/centre console is compromised even with a well executed console modification. (my opinion)
Excellent sound quality too from factory units.
Radio headunit is a HU735 as fitted originally for Japanese market hence FM band only 76-90mhz.
fitted a PB1000-14V band expander to extend FM function to New Zealands bands that typically go to 108mhz. Cost ex website online purchase $76-00 incl GST plus $5.00 courier.
Proper Volvo adaptor connectors and power hook-on all supplied so done in 5 minutes safely without even disconnecting battery. (no radio security code issues)
Working well, crystal clear reception on all local Wellington Region FM stations.
website is Electronic Developments Limited. http://www.edl.co.nz

24/06/2013. Mileage at 92,753 kms.
Fully drained coolant system today for peace of mind mainly.
Looked very clean so not sure how long it was in the motor but it looked a little thinned down. Certainly not a 50/50 blend.
Renewed with Nulon Long Life - Green. (Hoat type) anti freeze as specified appropriate for Volvos)
4 year or 250,00kms life span recommended. Mixed to the 50/50 blend.
A fair bit of burping required and used the air lock release screw plug in the lower hose to help it along.
Test driven all seems OK and heater working fine. Re check and top up if required in a few days if it is required.

Decided to invest in a code reader to enable diagnosis of any future issues.
Purchased on 13/08/2013 an Autel Maxiscan MS300 OBD11 reader.
Plugged in and completed a scan. Great result. No Codes Found.
( My policy following forum observations of minimal tinkering paying off. Volvo's seem to generate endless expensive problems when constantly fiddled with. )

16/12/2013. Current mileage is 95,0012 kilometres.

Drained out old 10W-30 engine oil and also replaced the oil filter cartridge.
Refilled with Valvolene DX1. Durablend-Semi Synthetic. 5W-30
Fitted 'Purolator Classic' filter cartridge. No. L15315.
Noted the old filter was a cheap oil change shop type, rubbish quality
with cardboard top/bottom rings. Looked sad too for just under 10,000kms.
Replacement looks far superior manuf' by a country mile.

19/01/2014. Mileage currently 95,971 km's.

Added a bottle of 'Prestone Complete Fuel System Cleaner' to the fuel tank and filled right up with usual 91 unleaded simply as a maintenance issue.
Should ensure injectors ,valves, plugs etc remain in good condition. Maybe improve fuel efficiency a little more too?

6 02-2015. mileage at 105,104 km's.

Oil change and new filter time again.
Chief Cherokee semi synthetic. 10W-30. 5 litres.
Filter - Purolator L 15315. (same as previous as it performed well and did not deteriote at all.)

Drain and fill performed on the transmission also.
Drained out 3.8 litres and replaced with Chief 'Multi ATF ' which fully meets Volvo and JWS 3309 spec's.
The old stuff was near black in color. Reckon never been changed previously yet she still had good smooth shifts generally.
Tested after the refill and perfect performance immediately and even smoother.
