Struts and mounts replaced/new noise
Struts and mounts replaced/new noise
2000 V40. 140K. I just had the front struts and mounts replaced. Bought parts at Volvo dealership but had independent garage do work. I noticed a faint noise Right Front,a few days after the work and it is now louder. Happens when turning even if not moving, with engine on. More prominent when turning and backing up. Sounds like a crunching/rubber crunching sound. The mounts are a "kit" as the oem parts no longer avail. CV boots are good/not leaking. Could the mount on right be installed wrong? What else could it be? Sound is coming from the same place as before the struts/mounts were done, but is a different noise. Car was aligned after both front struts and mounts were replaced.
Check to make sure that they didn't reinstall the sway bar endlinks wrong. I had my shocks replaced and the shop installed the endlinks with the bolts facing into the engine bay. The bolts should be facing the tire (outward). If installed incorrectly the link will bend and push against the strut eventually wearing out the strut mount. The also routed my speed sensor cable in between the end link which pinched and damaged the cable.

Pep Boys did mine, twice, two different places. Still have the same/similar noise. Rides higher now. The Haynes manual states something also about turning the top mount (s) before installing (?) Got to have them look at it again. Taking the manual with me.
