Volvo Repair Database "Original Technical Publications" review/comments/questions

Post by jreed »

Note: I originally posted this in the "Volvo Parts Dealers" section of the site about a week and a half ago, and there was no comment... perhaps because that's not a frequently-checked forum. Apologies if you are already aware of the post below:

Just wondering if anybody has purchased the "Original Technical Publications" product from FCP yet, and if so, what do they think about it? It looks like a CD-ROM or DVD containing repair info. Is this different from the information already contained in VADIS?

http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-r ... 0-tp-51956

Description from FCP's site:

"Finally it is time for Volvo Cars to present Original Technical Publications - Volvo Service and workshop literature transferred to DVD. I've been wondering about this, too, and periodically checking this thread.

The only other useful mention google turned up tonight was also from MVS—

Matt, did your copy arrive yet?
Also, does anyone know the username of Dave who submitted the review to MVS?

Not familiar with almost anybody's names, but if we're talking about MadeInJapan [think he's a Dave], I'm getting this.

Thanks for any information!

I'm curious too. I bought one for a Lincoln and it ... well sucked so I'm a little hesitant on this but this one sounds like it is a copy of the factory repair info.

I ordered the Volvo Original Technical Publication DVD for the 850 series. The scan copies of the manual would have been better than this format but once you learn to navigate the sections it is not bad. The service manual is OK for those jobs that aren't posted on this site. (IMHO, the MVS tutorials are some much better for shade tree guys like me.) the parts catalog is a nice feature if you can't find an online Volvo tool. It will show every part number in the diagram so you can take the part number and then search online stores for pricing.

The interface that you use is a bit odd. You have to load some sort of software viewer and then you can open content. Nothing is really searchable but the scans are broken down in searchable outlines. So if you try to search for a part number no go, but you can find broad categories to then drill down into.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for the review of the Volvo OTP DVDs, we just saw it.

It was very good!

There is another piece that is worth mentioning and that is the FAQs that you can link to upon registration and in two other places on the DVD. The link to that dynamic document is:

http://bit.ly/O1l83r

On another note if a customer is doing a re-install or moving to another computer they can contact [email protected] and we can resend their license.

Kind Regards,

OTP

I Bought the Volvo 850 1992 to 1997 OTP Disk and recieved a couple days ago. I then Activated it and waited for the email that I am supposed to recieve with the License file attached and the link where I can download the PDC viewer but I have never gotten anything yet. I have send two emails to [email protected] telling them my problem with not getting the email but still have not gotten any response. Is there a number for them that can be called? I am beginning to believe that I have wasted my money with this.
