'98 S70 rear door red jamb lamp staying on

Post by LowEnergyParticle »

On the rear left door of my 1998 S70 I've noticed it's red door jamb lamp staying on after the car is locked and parked. I read here at MVS how the "door open" microswitch was part of the locking mechanism. I have tested the mechanism by opening the door, and flipping the latch over: as if the striker was contacting the latch. About 90 percent of the time flipping the latch causes the red door jamb lamp to turn off. The other 10 percent a seemingly successful flip doesn't actually turn off the jamb lamp.

I tried shooting in a little penetrating oil, but that generally does nothing and this time was no exception. Is there a clever way to adjust the switch without taking the door apart?

Thank you very much!
Dave

I had this problem with both rear door lights - took the bulbs out, problem solved. :-)
If God had meant cars to have fuel injection, he never would have given us the SU carburetter
