Buffeting Noise with Window Down
Buffeting Noise with Window Down
I have a 2008 v-70 and whenever I roll the windows down my car begans to make a buffeting sound from the wind coming in the window. Sometimes I can make it stop by rolling down another window and sometime I can only make it stop by rolling all the windows up. Surely I'm not the only person experiencing this....it's extremely annoying.

No real fix.
If you have a car that disturbs the wind less for reduced aerodynamic drag at window openings then the window being opened creates the situation where inside still air meets lower pressure outside air. The pressure goes down in car then outside is greater and so forth. The alternating rise and fall in pressure is what you are experiencing. Try rolling down rear window a bit and when you raise them roll up rears first.

There is a fix for wind leak wind noise. There are no fixes for the helicopter noise from some combinations of windows being rolled down, especially wagons. I think the OP is talking about what often is nicknamed helicopter noise.
