Good/Bad Code Readers?

Post by TBrown00 »

I wasn't sure where to put this thread, so I decided on here. If it's in the wrong spot, feel free to move it.

I'm looking at getting a code reader and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions about what to get/not to get. The CEL is on and I'd like to check it soon so I'd prefer to get one from Autozone/O'Reilly's rather than online. Anything I should look for in a reader? Thanks!

OReilly Autozone stuff run about $50 and up.

Amazon has this thing for $20. I have this tool and love it:

OBD codes are rarely an emergency. You have some time to get the tool to read.
In the mean time, OReilly Autozone can read the codes for free for you.

I own 2 Actrons from Autozone a CP 9575 good middle of the line does more for more expensive other brands. on sale now. the actron 9580 is professional grade puts S On and Bosch $5000.00 plus tools to shame for speed easiness of use and diagnostic capabilities even resets ABS Modules. Both units can be software upgraded free as new programs are released. They are part of the S On family, and Autel /Harbour Freight ect scan tools are either made for them or clones. The latter unit routinely picks up codes the expensive units fail. 4 nd 5 stars respectively. Check price Blink cupon addon Firefox for secret big deals, but hit or miss

Ya I'm not too worried about it, it's just something I want to take care of now if possible while I have the time over the next few days before my schedule gets busy.

I called those two places the other day and they both told me they couldn't do that anymore. The guy at O'Reilly told me something about it being illegal now because they aren't a repair shop and I would have to go to AAMCO to have them read.
