1995 960 wagon: droopy in back

Post by rich-cali »

Hello,

I bought a 1995 960 wagon in September with 86,000 miles. It needed new struts and shocks, but the struts turned into substantial work on the front suspension. That seems to be cleared up, except for a sound that the car makes going over the little plastic speed bumps in parking garages...

In back, though, the car looks like it's sitting 1/2 - 1 inch too low. I understand this car has IRS with a transverse fiberglass spring. Can this spring get droopy, as coil springs are said to do? Or is there something else I should look at? Are the (non-nivomat) shocks adjustable?

I find no driving/handling issues that I can attribute to this apparent sagging, but I wonder if it is likely to get worse, or destructive.

So far, my "intake" of the car has provided an introduction to some typical 960 problems addressed here (stuck seats, failure of original radiator, rotted gigantic battery cable). I'm not quite sure whether slight droopiness is a headline issue, or not. Thanks for your thoughts... Rich

The car is almost certainly equipped with Nivomat self-leveler shocks. Search "nivomat" on here and you'll find plenty.
