1998 v70 where are child tether points?

Post by snelson »

Hi folks, my 1998 v70 t5 from Japan does not have the little plastic covers on the backs of the rear seats to indicate where my little girls child safety seat tether should go.
Can I assume that the threaded holes are there in the frame of the rear seats?
Is there any chance someone could post precise measurements from top/bottom and side to side showing the exact centre of each hole?
I figured the threaded holes are probably there under the fabric, I just need to know where to cut away the fabric.
Unless someone has another work around or suggestion?
Thanks guys for any input / help
Steve

Hi Steve,

I'll take a look when I get home today. I have the exact same car and installed the middle one for my boy. It was down pretty low for the middle and the side ones are up a little higher. If I recall there were no anchor symbols being a 15 year old car, just round plastic plugs.

Did you already get the OEM anchors?

Eric

PS - See if this is of any help. http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/64 ... -go-wagon/

The '97's didn't have them and I'll guess your '98 doesn't either. Not sure when they were introduced to the platform.

For my girls, we just used the seat belt passed through the safety seat holes. We were lucky enough to have a wagon that had the integrated safety seat which was cool so we only needed one additional safety seat in the car.

That is odd. My 1998 t5m and my mom's 1998 AWD both have tether points (you still have to buy the hardware). Neither was a late run model.

Most of the searching I did a while ago when I was installing my tether pointed to the all the late 1990s volvos having the holes. Hidden or obvious. Maybe the Japan models did not have this?

You may have them, but the holes may be hidden under the carpet.

The holes for mine are 6 inches in from the wheel wells and 1 inch up from the floor. The center one is below the floor in the middle. I just have flat round plastic plugs in the holes that are factory. PM me if you want pics.

I usually tie them to the roof rails, it keeps the inside of the car quieter

Thank you for the replies and comments guys. There's definitely nothing indicating where the holes are. No plastic caps or anything like that. I have a standard anchor that's basically a bolt and a metal plate that you clip in to.
I have the integrated flip down child seat in the middle.
I just didn't want to put holes in the seat back carpet if there's no anchor points there. Plus it feels like there's a thin sheet of particle board or something like that on the back, so just a simple slice with razor won't be enough to have a peak....
Thanks again guys, ill post any progress...

Edit - thanks Eric for the measurements! I'll try it out this weekend.
Pretty sure it's law up here that you have the tethers attached, so will have to find a hole somewhere in the back to attach these things

I am trying to locate tether anchors for my '98 V70. I think it is part number 9136928-0. Anybody have one they would be willing to part with? Or suggestions as to where I can buy one? Thanks.

You can probably call FCP, your local Volvo dealer, check the banners at the top of this page or scour a junkyard.
