Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
After swapping transmissions, the box with my vac hoses and purge valve have dissappeared. I have a egr canister with two small 1/4" plastic hoses. one is about 15" long with no end fitting, and the other is 40" with an elbow fitted to the other end. There is another similar hose along the front edge of the subframe that stops near the drivers side edge of the rad.(pretty sure this one comes from the gas tank). It has no end fitting. It seems as if it would match with the short canister hose, but there is no coupler. I also found a windshield washer pump looking device that hangs by it's connecting wires near the battery box... no mounting bracket that I can see. It has two short looping hoses and an inlet/ outlet with nothing attatched. I'm looking for a diagram to re-assemble these hoses. I have a Haynes and a Chilton but neither show or mention this device. I got a purge valve. None of the 850 in salvage were exactly like mine. The routing map under the hood is inconclusive at best. Appreciate any guidance Thanks, Ken

We are going to need a bit more information. For starters I think you are describing the EVAP system rather than the EGR. The EGR is quite simple and consists of a stainless steel pipe running from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve on the bottom of the intake manifold. There is one vacuum line off of the vacuum tree that goes to it and an electrical connector for the valve and another for the temp sensor.
There are four different versions of the EVAP system for a '95 and there are two possible ECU systems. What we need is the VIN number and a picture of the product plate. The product plate is located on the inner fender on the left hand side of the car, more or less just above the battery. A good clear picture where the numbers can be read will help us narrow down the emission designations for your specific car. If you can pop the cover on the ECU box and see if you have two modules or three modules that will also help.
Vin; YV1LS5534S2234263 There are two modules in the box with an empty space for another. The product plate #'s are : under Volvo 854 S 2 234263 . Under "Made in Belgium" 1st line- # 31 2nd line is # 3450 3rd line is # 606-21 5th line is EEXAAMS. I have great photos but cannot attatch them as I am a technocaveman. I also have a pic of the mystery device. Sincerely greatful
The mystery device is the vacuum pump for the cruise control. It mounts directly to the underside of the battery tray, IIRC by one bolt. Leave the white nipple open to the air, and there should be a vacuum line under there that connects to the black rubber elbow that is next to the white nipple. There is also an electrical connector for the cruise pump, you should see it under there.
You guys are the best. Only one connection left... the top end of the purge valve ... the under hood diagram shows it connects to the throttle body somewhere. Could it go to the tree? Thanks for all the effort, Ken
On my 850s, the line from the top of the purge valve connects to a brass nipple that screws into the intake manifold, right near the vacuum tree. But if that nipple is not there, yes the vacuum tree should work fine.
