G'day.

Post by Vard66 »

Hi guys.

Been lurking for a while, and have in no small way been persuaded to register after finding the tenth or fifteenth superbly helpful guide after google directing me right on back here yet again.

Name's Chris but people have called me Vard for ten years so Vard I am.

Image

24, living in West Witshire, UK (between Swindon and Bristol along the A4 for anyone who wants to look up the area on maps... )

Have loved the 850 wagon since I watched them in the BTCC when I was six or seven, and have always loved the sound and power of the T5. It had to happen eventually, and back in November one of my friends pointed out that he had an olive green met. 855R needing a little bit of work and some formality legal checks to get her back on the road after she was written off on uneconomical repair basis.

Bought her, spent some time doing the mechanicals and have just put her through the VIC (Vehicle Identity Check - essentially a check of the engine code, chassis code and reg against the database to make sure it's not another car masquerading with the R's plates on after she was bought back).

Image

She's not the tidiest wagon in the world but I'm working on it. Since that photo was taken I've changed the rear lights and side repeaters for clear V70 ones, resprayed the ratty rear wiper arm and given her a bit of a scrubbing up.

She needs a new front bumper, as the R one is rather smashed to hell - looks like the previous owner before my friend drove it into every kerb he came across for fun.

Image

She's also rather low, and whomsoever achieved that also achieved incredibly soft and rather long travel, so she is in fact somewhat unsettling to drive in anger. Within a couple of weeks I'm expecting delivery of some cheap coilovers from Pro Sport (who I gather used to be Jamex) to hopefully sort that out for the time being.

Anyway, I'll stop rabbiting now and go and have a proper nosey about the fora.

Cheers,

Vard.

Welcome, Vard. Good to have you on.

Good for you to check the VIC, I test drove a '98 R Saffron a few years ago that I've since thought was somehow fabricated (it didn't have the Info cluster).
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Cheers Matt.

The VIC was unfortunately a requirement; without it I can't get a log book, or tax the car. It's only a 20 minute inspection of the numbers though, basically 'hi. hum ho hum dee doo, yep, that's the car the plates tell me it is. Bye now.'

Cheers guys. Yeah, I'm liking it too, its like a darker version of Rover's Woodcote Green, a colour I've always been a bit GaGa over ...

I'm also a bit of a Rover enthusiast, to date I've had three Rover 820 Vitesses, one Rover 827 Sterling, one Rover 820i, one Rover 420 GSi Turbo, one drab old 416 SLi, one immaculate 214 SLi and one Rover 216 GTi TwinCam.
