440 cylinder head bolt torque.
Good afternoon. Before I torque the cylinder heads bolts on a B18U engine, I want to get the sequence right. The Haynes manual says 22 lbft, then 52, wait 3 minutes and slacken, then 15 lbft and finally angle-tighten 123 degrees +/- 2. However, the instructions with the head gasket (British Gaskets Group) say 22 lbft, the 50 degrees, then -180 degrees, then 18 lbft and finally 213 degrees. Which is correct, or do both arrive at the same tightness? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Re: 440 cylinder head bolt torque.
Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
The attached corresponds with the Haynes manual and is from a reputable trade book.
Before starting lightly oil the screw threads and the bolt head mating surfaces then put them in finger tight.
I wouldn't think that the gasket instructions are correct as the final 213 degrees is a lot more than 123 degrees and would result in the head being too tight.
Bill.
