question about vag-com cable and software for v70 2000

Hi, Matty Moo and others!

I pulled this out of another thread because I wanted to ask a more generic question, if that's ok?

where do you find a vag-com cable for a volvo v70? are they all the same? the ones I've seen say VW/audi

what software do you recommend for volvos, is vol-fcr generic? Is there software for apple or android smartphones and/or another hardware dongle available for iphone or android phones to read codes on the phone? Is there any mac software that someone would recommend? (less important, I'd prefer to use my phone, if it works that way).

Thanks very much!

best regards,

P.

You can find vag-com cable on e-bay.
Vol-Fcr is not a generic fault code reader,it's Volvo fault code reader.

There is a software for apple & android phones but you will need a proper interface for communication between the phone & the car...also available on e-bay. It's a bluetooth obdII adapter/interface.
Vol-Fcr is for volvos up to '98(including '98).

With android or apple software you can track live data from your car.
I don't know how true the live data is from phone software but the rumour says that the data is valid.

thanks, Misha!
Vol-Fcr is for volvos up to '98(including '98).
does that mean versions of vol-fcr up to 1998 work on volvos or any version of vol-fcr works on any volvo up to the 1998 model year? I have a 2000 v70 so if the latter, I'm out of luck and this will not work for me , I guess!

I appreciate your advice.

Best regards,

P.

Engine codes(read & erase) will work only for Bosch Motronic 4.4 engine menagement.'98 should be all Motronic 4.4 ,turbos or n/a.There are also a versions with Motronic 4.3.(depends on market).European market is pretty much different from U.S or U.K market.

All other codes....abs,ac,transmission,power seats, immobiliser, srs, service light reset...etc are fully compliant.

I have '97 850 with Motronic 4.4 and Vol-Fcr is more than usefull to me.

Bad news are that Vol-Fcr will not work on your 2000 v70.It should have Denso engine menagement. But good news are that you can buy cheap generic code readers from Autel or some other brand that will read & erase your engine codes. For access to any other ecu in the car you'll need a special Volvo tool.

I've been using an inexpensive Actron scanner for a while on my '98 S70's. Can the Volvo-fcr software do anything that my scanner can't? Also, if I get one of these vag-com cables (hilarious name, BTW) where can I download the software from? Or do I have to buy a disc?
