Hello Gentlemen,
I have a mild vibration/grinding (hard to put into words) coming from the front of the engine. I just had the timing belt replaced and have a couple thousand miles on it since then without incident. The noise just started the other day and only happens at idle, worse when I put it into gear and set the parking brake. I thought it was the serpentine belt tensioner pulley (which I changed today and it was defective) but that was not it. Using a screwdriver to my hear the noisiest component is the power steering pump and the noise goes away when I turn the steering wheel. The pump has plenty of fluid and spins freely without any lateral or axial movement as do the alternator and A/C compressor.
I suspect the power steering pump but now sure. Any ideas?
Nick
