A/C Switch Won't Turn Off - Sticky Switch

Hi Matthew and forum experts

Its my second thread after 2 years of faithful Volvo 850 transportation. I like this car.

I've had this issue since purchasing the car: The A/C switch, you know that turns the A/C on and off, THE LIGHT WONT TURN OFF. Its not the end of the world cause when I need A/C its either FULL BLAST ANTARCTICA or off.

Troubleshooting: If i press down the off position with some force then the light goes off, but the moment I let go it comes back. Occasionally I can hit that sweeet spot and it will stay off, but I have to be lucky and stare at it instead of the road.

Has anyone run into this problem before? Is there some kind of easy solution, like contact cleaner or soemthing? Should I just take the climate control cover with switches from a junkyard (part no. 6802442)?

Btw what size metric socket I need for the trunk hinges?

Depending on the type of switch, if it has a metal contact and needs cleaned, I use CAIG DeOxit (D5). The stuff is legendary. I use it on guitar knobs, stereo knobs, switches, etc. But if you cannot get to the contacts, that won't help.

Trunk hinges? They look like something between 12 and 15mm.

The AC / REC switch on the MCC is a known weak link. I rebuilt one but it only lasted for a couple of months before it jammed up again. List on the replacement part is over $100.00 but if you use a dealer website you can get it cheaper.
