oil leak

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

oil leak

Post by Azdude »

Another really strange one,,,

As all of you know I have a weird S80, and here's the question...
After PCV replacement, new cam seals, turbo return seals, sealing the oil pan, etc.etc.
Now after a few weeks of running, it's starting to leak engine oil, yes the front crank seal was also replaced, this thing is about ready to be driven off the bank of a very tall mountain! Sigh

Could someone please respond that has had this same issues and tell me what and where else I need to look, inspect, re-seal or something..

Thanks

You've covered your bases... Now one of them has been compromised - again. Cams are the most common leaks on the s80 for those that have not had major work or accidents.

Well I found the leak, right now I cannot remember the name but anyway it's the bull nose looking bulbous thingy, center of engine, below the cam sprockets, 3 10 mm head bolts, all loose. Tightened and no more leaks.., Oh and wishbonesr, I did a cheat when I installed new cam seals, used engine assy lube on the inside towards the cams and used the victor rentz cam sealant round the outside of the seals.. been a spell now and dry as a bone in the desert southwest...

Can you post a pic of the bulbous thing for others to check? We can put a name to it, if you post.

I too would like to see a pic as I have an oil leak on 99, S80, T6. I understand you should NOT, NOT, NOT pressure or steam wash Volvo engines as very risky re water entry into sensitive electronic parts, etc. Is proper way to diagnose leaks by use of colored tracer in oil ??? What is name/ source of tracer liquid ??? Any experience here ??
