went to look at a 99 v70 CC

Post by djomlas »

had an arrow blinking, i tried rowing trough the gear selector to see if i can clean it and nothing.
did i have to wait some time to get it to shift itself out of limp mode?

the guy that was selling it said he has been driving it like this from January!!!!

also, the oil was spilled all over (im assuming bad seal on the cap, same as my 98, i replaced mine).
car after testdrive had fans blowing pretty long (MUCH longer than my car after shutting off)

car has 130K on it, what is a reasonable price to pay for this, and what sort of repair might i be looking at?

Another thread on here, purchasing a 2000 for $400.00 with possible head problems. That sounds like a good price for any of these cars needing work. They are good if they have been maintained, but will still cost money to keep up. People usually don't sell unless they have run into more problems then they feel like fixing. Right now my cost are still better than a car payment, but I may be getting to old to crawl under this thing.
Sorry for not giving a price. I paid $1000.00 for mine and drove it 258 miles home and have spent close to $3000.00 on it. It may be worth $1000.00, but still needs work.
You have a 98 and I think that is a good year. You hear good and bad about all the years.

i ended up buying the car for $800.
everything but the trans works haha.
i tried resetting the ECU to see if that will clear it but to no avail.
im still trying to figure out how to get it out of this limp mode. it starts from 3rd gear and takes a while to get going.
any ideas?
should i go ahead and replace the PNP switch, does it sound that it may be the problem?
reverse lights do come on tho....

i got a regular OBD reader, and got a code p0605, what the heck is that?
from some search it loks to be something with TCM maybe.

thing is, i have another v70, a 98, would i be able to rule out TCM with swapping them quickly, or?
is 98 and 99 tcm same?

this is where i got the answer from, seems like that can put it in the limp mode.

Nope
Almost nothing from the engine or transmission (or AWD system) is swappable from 98 to 99

great haha
but thats to be expected i guess

do i need to look for any specific ones? what years would fit in my 99?
will they all be plug and play? or do they need some coding or reprograming done?

'99 was the first year that V70s and S70s went to a new coded system for TCM and engine module (ECM)

They can't be used from other cars unless a lot of other electrical items are used from the same donor car.
