armorall

I've been armoralling the interior of my 850 every week to protect the interior. This was recommended by the salesman. I'm just wondering if its necessary for the whole car or just the dash, since the side windows are tinted and therefore would not let in much UV. Is there any point doing the seats as well? It is an 850S and appears to have vinyl seats.

I think every week is a little overkill, maybe once every 6 months. The seats are probably leather not vinyl. Use leather conditioner on the seats not armorall!

aside from being a dust magnet, armour all & similar products are crap. That stuff just builds up and you will start to develop a haze as you're "paving" the textured plastic & guess what? It still ends up cracking (dash). Spray some plain old silicone lubricant (make sure it's spray stuff) on a cloth & wipe down the interior with that (except where you sit). It puts back into the plastic what it's losing to the sun without building up or attracting dirt in the same way as armour all although I have no idea how it would react to all that schmutz that you've got on there now - works great as a tire shine too at a fraction of the cost.

Thanks for the advice. Any brands you recommend? Is the Volvo 850 dash prone to cracking? My Pulsar dash cracked. My 850 is 10 years old and the dash is still fine. How often should hte silicone lubricant be applied?

Armorall will suck all the plasticiziers (sp?) out of the stuff you put it on, making it brittle. Then it cracks and flakes off. Run alway from this stuff.

What a surprise that a car salesman suggested it.
