This video will show you how to do a compression test on a automobile. This test was done on a Volvo 850 R. It will be the same on all Volvo 850, S70, and V70 cars built prior to 1999.
You should de-activate the ignition system and fuel system so that fuel will not be pumped into the cylinder chambers and the spark plugs wires are not trying to fire.

No. If it were one, maybe. It will be easier and cheaper to replace the motor.
This motor was run out of oil and the cam bearings are shot as well.
