XC90 Dashboard (DIM) Mileage Question

OK, I have an XC90 that had a bad DIM at 86,000 miles and was replaced with a used DIM with 152,000 miles. The car has been driven for about a month since the used DIM was installed.

If I buy a new DIM or a XEMODEX DIM, will it get the mileage (86,000) from the ECU/SEM or will it inherit the mileage from the used DIM with 152,000?

I went to a Volvo dealer who said that they could not get the mileage from the ECU, they could only get it from the DIM. I thought that was a bit fishy.
