FCP has a torque converter seal, a shift selector seal and the axle seals for an auto trans. What you're calling the pump seal must be the torque converter seal. Simple terminology confusion. Sorry about that.
I plan on changing the axle seals but is there any reason to change the shift selector seal? I haven't heard of anybody doing that unless messing with the PNP.

Just wanted to update this.

I finished it this weekend. It actually went very well but was extremely time consuming.
Once into it I found the oil cooling hoses were seeping so I replaced them. I also had a very nasty off idle stumble that was progressively getting worse as well as a little bit of a rough idle. My intention was to clean the IAC while I was in there but when I started taking everything apart I found the hose to the IAC had about a 1.5" tear in it. It was completely invisible until I removed the hose. I also replaced the motor mounts.

With the car having 357K miles I must say that I had my doubts about going through the effort. I drove it to work today with a huge smile on my face the whole way. The idle is smooth as silk and the off idle stumble is completely gone. Even better is zero leaks from the RMS or the torque converter seal. Feels like new again.

Thanks so much to everybody who contributed. Especially Matt. I used his novel as a guide with my laptop in the garage during the whole process. There were a few little things different on my '98 but easily figured out.

Glad to hear all went well for you. :-)

It is nice not to see the "infamous" puddle on the ground anymore... LOL!

Is the seal for the dipstick pipe on the automatic transmission the same like for the engine oil dipstick? I keep getting the same result in searches. https://usparts.volvocars.com/p/Volvo_1 ... 37865.html

Use the Volvo web store parts engine to pull those two part numbers and compare.
