2011 XC60 Dash Lights Go Out Intermittently
We've recently experienced the dash lights going out intermittently. They are sometimes off when the car is started, and sometimes on. They sometimes will come back on after driving a short distance, and sometimes will stay off for quite a while. We leave the headlight switch turned to "on" all the time. We believe that this only occurs with the daytime illumination of the dashboard, and that the nighttime illumination functions normally. The Sensus screen is also affected by this problem. Our dealer has run diagnostics and can't pull up a fault code. Any ideas for me to give the dealer on what to do?

Hi there
Did the dealer check the thumb wheel rheostat switch that dims and brightens the dash lights. This unit could be faulty.

Don't know for sure. I thought that might be an issue. What I've tried since I posted my initial question is to use the 2nd key for the car -- it's one of those that provides keyless entry and start, and operates individual memory functions for the seats, radio, and climate control. I have not experienced this problem using that key, and am replacing the battery in the first key, so I'm hoping this will fix it. I'll post again to let the forum know if this has been successful.

The solution to this problem was to have the dealer replace the light sensor on top of the dashboard. It controls the dashboard lights dimming at dusk, and was defective. Apparently was an easy fix -- just popped out of its location, not requiring removal of the dash.
