S80 popping noise in front left

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 popping noise in front left

Post by Mikey »

Dealer told me my sub frame bolts and orings need to be replaced. They said this was what was causing my popping creeching noise in the front left. They will have it done tommorow, I hope this does fix it. This is an FYI for all of you that have replaced everything on the front, struts, plates, bushings, etc. and still have a noise!!

Sorry, I forgot about those rubber bushings (go between the engine cradle and the chassis). Those are a real bear to swap out--they will have to lower the cradle (engine and transmission support) and wedge those suckers in. I hope that does do it, Mikey!

Just to clarify. They are not really replacing anything, yet they are a special kind of oring made by Volvo just for this kind of problem. They said you couldn't buy these anywhere else because it was just created to cure the subframe noises.

Design flaw??? That's their fix for the noise? Sorta like adding inserts to your shoes to make you taller. It's no wonder Volvo is catching hell on the S80s. And why you'll never see anything beyond a 5-cylinder in one. Make sure you blast the SM for this "proprietary" fix that is costing you $/time/peace of mind. Just my .02.

I just got my car back and low and behold that is exactly what they put on the back two subframe bushings was a 3/8" thing oring right on top of the bushings. Guess how much for 2 orings and 2 bolts?? $358 !!!!!! But the noise is completly gone!

Part number 8638585 is for the O-ring. You need two for the subframe.
