key fob programming s80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Diz -- there are plenty of threads on this subject around, Ive checked 'em all out, and unfortunately they all say the same thing -- IT CAN'T BE DONE.

Seeing all the cheap remotes up on E-bay, I just had to believe there was some way to, or somebody that could, reprogram a used remote. I talked to 4 different Volvo dealers, they all said IT CAN'T BE DONE. Each insisted that the PIN that came on the new remote packaging was necessary for them to program it to the car. So I e-mailed one of the more prolific remote sellers on E-bay about it, who responded that a "helpful" dealer could reprogram a remote with the same equipment they use to program the new remote to the S80. Ultimately, I broke down and bought one from the dealer and had it programmed (~$160 w/software).

Being the eternal optimist, I snagged a remote on E-bay (same part no., etc.) for $4, in the hope that I will someday find a way. I frankly don't know whether to believe the E-bay seller or the dealers (both have motive to cloud the truth). Maybe I just can't find a "helpful" dealer, or maybe it just can't be done. Sure would be great to have a second remote for only the cost of the software download (my dealer - $33.00). Good luck, and PLEASE let us know if you learn differently.

You cannot program a remote without the code that is supplied with each new remote. If you do not have the code and a VIDA, you cannot do it. I work as a Volvo tech and your dealer is not jerking you around.
