Hi
I need to repair my ABS module and I read how to removed it and I read Ozarka Lee's post about DIY repair but I need some tips after removing it.
Which fuse (#) do I need to remove
Unhook negative cable before removal for 1998 S70 or 14 # fuse same for this model/yr?
I read in Lee's post about using a baggie to put over the cables to prevent dust, etc. but concerned that it would melt around the connectors from engine heat. Best place to tape it against?
Also before you reinstall the ABS, do you take out the fuse again or disconnect the negative batt cable ? Do you need to bleed brakes after ?
98 Volvo S70 2.4L non-turbo
Thanks
Nick

Just pull the #3 fuse from the fuse box in the cowl. Don't bother disconnecting the battery. If your going to be driving with it out, cover the large harness end with a baggie. It won't melt.
For what it's worth, I swap them out with the car actually running all the time without issue. I just pull over, switch them out and keep going.

You crack me up Matt. I have been neglecting changing it out in the wagon. I do have two units, and an E5 socket. I also have an odometer gear. Using a wooden, door framing wedge for the time being.Matty Moo wrote:Just pull the #3 fuse from the fuse box in the cowl. Don't bother disconnecting the battery. What I don't have is the time.

If you have long arms, you can swap them from the driver set without stopping...but only on non-turbo models.

I actually do swap them without shutting the engine off. I don't like the wear and tear of stopping and starting the car 24 times in a row.
I use one bolt with a socket welded to the head. With that setup I can swap them out in under 30 seconds. The only two times I've blown a fuse is with two different modules that had internal faults that would blow it every time regardless. I do have a separate pump with a 3' harness, but I only use that with my bench machine to pull codes or bench test using VIDA.
I will run another main harness through the firewall and under the dashboard this fall when things settle down. Harness coming in through the firewall, pump mounted under the seat with the harness coming out...then I'll be able to test them without even getting out of the car.

Alright. I will be in touch, and stopping by your place soon.
I am not kidding either, I need to take care of it before the winter and would not mind an experienced opinion.
I will be in your direction around the 22nd of this month. PM me if we may make an arrangement.
Will compensate accordingly.
