1999 V70XC No crank with cold wet morning

I went out to my car this am and it was about 40 degrees (farenheit for our non-USA folks) and wet. When I put the key in all of the lights on the dash went on and the electrics were otherwise normal, but when I turned the key to start the car I could hear some tapping and clicking from various places under the hood, but no cranking at all. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery to no avail. I plugged in my code reader and no codes.

Of note over the past year or so occasionally when it's wet out the code for the CVVT sensor (1332, if I recall correctly) and I'll clear it and it won't return. Otherwise the car runs fine. I replaced the fuel filter about 6 months ago as well, so I don't think it's that. I'm not by the car at the moment so I haven't listened for the fuel pump, but I'd imagine that it would try and crank even if the relay wasn't functioning.

Any ideas where to look?

Dead battery. Try to read volts while cranking.

With that in mind and to hijack my own thread, any recommendations on batteries for these cars?

Try and jump it and if it starts, have the battery checked.
I have had good luck with Interstate batteries in all my cars and motorcycle.
