ABS Module

Post by smithy850 »

I recently had the ABS Module in my '98 S70 replaced at the dealer after I had the light on the dash and an obvious malfunction in the system. It was a bitter pill to swallow when I got the bill, but seemed necessary. I was fine with everything until tonight when I was thumbing through my old invoices and found an invoice from '02 that also had an ABS Module replacement. It was under warranty at the time so I didn't recall it being a major repair (IE:big money) but I'm wondering why it would go out this soon. It was @ 60,000 miles the first time and I am just shy of 100,000 now. Has anyone else had to have this repair done twice? Has it been noted as a trouble spot with the S70? Just curious. Thank you for any replies.

Go to this website and check it out:

I had him repair/upgrade my ABS unit on my '96 850. He upgrades the original components to make them last longer from the normal wear and tear (heat and vibration) for a cheaper price too.

But since you've had yours recently replaced with an OEM unit I assume, you might want to e-mail Mr. Rocha and ask him if he has the MTBF stats for your S70 OEM ABS unit. That way, you may get some idea when it may go out again. I believe its with the design flaw that these ABS units don't stand up to wear and tear of the car for longer mileage.

I too had ABS problems crop up at about 66,000+ miles. I then had it repaired/upgraded by Mr. Rocha. I don't expect to have any more problems with it for quite some time. Although I only have 68,000+ now, I'm keeping track of how long before the next ABS lite comes on. Hopefully never......

I wish I had been payed more attention when this thing needed service. I'm just very surprised that the second unit went so soon after the first (30K later). I just hope that the dealer didn't do something shady because it was a warranty repair. I hope there isn't a next time, but if there is, i will be sure to contact Mr. Rocha. I've heard nothing but good things about his service. Thanks for the reply.
