1993 245 A/T Shift Assembly; Retrofit/Convert?

Post by AlaskanPrincess »

Again problems w/shift assy (PN 6843024) & NSS (PN 9130035) - car not running as a result.
'93 shift assy is beyond dealer only item it's now available only from Sweden (list about $350).

I've seen more than 1 suggestion to convert shifter to an earlier year ('91-'92' or '82 - '90) - and have included most concise.
Hoping for feedback / help from Volvo enthusiast who has actually done this.
[and I'm also interested in purchasing shift assy - at this point primarily interested in '93, or '91-'92)

"Here's the straight scoop. Get an 1991-1993 shifter if you want to maintain your brake pedal to solenoid shift lock feature. Any of the 240 shifters will work all the way back to 1982 when Volvo went to the AW-70/71 automatic overdrive. The only thing that may be different on those 1990 and older shifters is/are the connectors for the neutral safety switch and the overdrive. A drop in shifter will be the 1991-1993 shifter. The only difference between the 1991-92 shifter and the 93 shifter is the cable interlock feature. The 1991-92 shifters DO NOT have that feature. The addition of the ignition lock to shifter cable interlock was an across the board change on Volvo models in 1993. IOW, if you put in a 1991-92 shifter into your 93, it will work fine. You won't be able to hook the cable up to it, yet, it will still work."
