2000 V70XC New fuel pump but no fuel pressure

My Volvo is giving me trouble again.

I replaced a broken fuel pump with a brand new one. When I crank the engine the pump comes on for 2 seconds but there is no fuel coming out of the tank. I even took off the fuel line from the pump and cranked the engine and I can hear the pump humming for 2 seconds but nothing is coming out. Pump relay is also new.

Any ideas?

You should be able to cycle the key to prime the pump. If your not getting fuel then you have an issue with the fuel being picked up into the pump. You may need to remove the pump and take a look at it.

Did you use a new screen too? If not there may be a blockage in side. Also check to make sure your connections are tight at the pump.

So far I have not had the time to deal with the issue. Fuel tank is about 25% full. The whole pump assembly is brand new including screens etc.
When I turn the key I can hear the pump humming for 2 sec but no fuel comes out.
I am planning to power up the pump directly and see if it is the pump or power issue.

Any suggestions?

Maybe the wires are connected backwards and it's pumping the fuel the wrong directions, if that is possible.

If the pump is running for a couple seconds which is normal you should be getting fuel. If not either a faulty pump, bad connection, or blockage. I would remove the pump and take a look. You can always test it outside of the car..

Ok I got the fuel pump off. The new fuel pump has broken off its assembly inside the plastic assembly can. So it works but there is no pressure into a line. It is very odd that the the pump I replaced it with had the same damage. Both of them are mechanically working but have broken off their assembly.
I am sending this back and getting another.
I took a fuel line off the front by the injectors and was able to pump air through the line to the tank connector easily.
What can cause the pump to brake off its assembly like that? Can a fuel pressure brake it off?
Also one of the fuel line connectors have a bent spring that holds the line on the pump. Where can I get these? The online part store tells me I have to buy a new line from a dealer. That does not sound a good solution to me.

Realize your post is a few years old, but it was a good reference for us, had the same problem. After a whole day wasted testing, researching and more testing - not to mention a few arguments and hard feelings - found the new part broken. Wondering if this was the same failure you had? Ours was the OEM Volvo pump, not even a cheap knock off (if there is one).
