2000 V70 XC T AWD Transmission Reverse not working

I'm getting a code P1618.

The transmission will not reverse when throttle is applied. it will back up when it is idled.

It seems fine in all forward gears.

Background: I had it in reverse, my foot on the brake and one foot on the gas. i reved it a little to see if it would build boost. something popped. I'm suspecting internal damage of some sort. i only reved it to 1500 RPM. i can't believe that would have killed reverse.

Is there some sort of bevel gear that could have snapped?

I had a solenoid blow clean out, but I figure that's pretty rare. Check the fluid level and condition via the dipstick. If it's low or very dark, a drain-and-fill of fluid may do the trick for you.

Is your AWD driveshaft intact? A front axle could have popped out of the transmission entirely if the car is only being run as FWD.
