Transmission fluid question

Anyone with any actual experience using Valvoline Maxlife in place of Volvo ATF in the AW55-50 tranny used in a 2002 S60? Valvoline technical say's it'll sub, looking for some real life confirmation....

Volvo wants $18/qt for their ATF, a little steep....to say the least.

Go to Toyota dealer and buy Type IV fluid. Same as Volvo fliud at 1/3 cost. Trans oil is $5.00. Volvo AW55 trans is made by Aisin Warner, a Toyota company.

It's called Mobil 3309 (same as factory Volvo and Toyota) This is the ONLY stuff to use

JRL is right use mobil 3309 that's what i did and it shift SMOOTHLY. Go
to a mobil distributor(local) they will sell you a case(12 quarts) and that's what you need to do the job. It cost me 54$can. for 12 quarts.

Cost me $38, bought 5 cases

A good source for Mobil ATF 3309 in the Washington, D.C. area is Chesapeake Petroleum with warehouses in Gaithersburg and Upper Marlboro in Maryland. A case is is $51.12 including tax. Their phone is 301-948-3150. I don't know if they will ship, and if you pick it up it's cash or check only.

Mobil does not import the 3309 into South Africa, so I used Toyota T-IV in my 02 XC flush - no problem as it is the ATF prescribed by Toyota for some Toyota and all Lexus models with Aisin-Warner transmissions. Price is one third of the Volvo OEM ATF ...
