1999 S80 T6 Lazy man's buzzing lock fix

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

1999 S80 T6 Lazy man's buzzing lock fix

Post by astouffer »

My drivers side door lock started buzzing and trying to fight me sometimes while locking or simply opening the door. All signs point to the lock module needing replaced. I don't feel like spending the money on a used module and trying to wrestle this one out of the door. Plus I only have one key for the car and keep the remote at home in a drawer in case of stupidity on my part.

If you unplug the module it will think your door is always open and nag you on the dash display and keep the interior lights on. One day it decided to chime during my entire drive to work. Ok time to get serious. Cutting the motor wires allows the rest of the power locks to work while disabling yours. Manual locking is not affected.

Here is my fix for the driver side door:

1. Take the panel off the door
2. Locate the bundle of wires going to the module. Consult the diagram for your particular year or model of car for which colors to cut. On mine it was yellow, grey, and violet. Be careful as some wires have a white stripe
3. Cut the wires and heatshrink the loose ends
4. Put the door back together

Enjoy your trouble free lock :D
