1998 V70 - Tailgate / boot seal worn through

Post by faster4tec »

My tailgate / boot rubbers are in a very bad way, even with the latch and rubber bump stops adjusted to the max it can still rattle and over the years it has worn through all the seals on the boot-lid/tailgate itself and worn away the paint (and some metal) on the body of the car (please see photos).

Need to replace the seals, guess its a dealer only job and they are glued/bonded to the boot and body. Which glue should I use, Sikaflex or is there anything less £££ than that?

--------------

Just rang local volvo parts dept. erm, yeah going to have to find an alternative solution!

There are 4 seals.

One that runs right around the tailgate itself (moving part) - £87+vat
One that runs across top of roof between the end of the roofrails - £66+vat
Two that run up each side of the boot opening vertically - £22+vat each

So yeah, not a freaking chance i'm paying that for some strips of rubber!

Anyone know any good suppliers for profiles of seal/moulding and i'll just shape them myself. The one thats attached to teh roof between the rails I don't think is the culprit it looks in good order was just going to change for the sake of doing all of the seals in one go.
