I have a 1996 850R throwing these codes today.
Misfires only at heavy throttle load, with RPM between 4K-5K (has been doing this for a few months now) but runs fine otherwise. Starts easlily. Minimum oil consumption.
Plugs, dist, plug wires recently changed.
Could this be a malfunctioning wastegate or turbo related issue?
Can anyone supply a link with discription of P0302 and P 1310 codes?
BTW: I have 180,000K miles on the engine.

Those are both generic misfire codes (p0302 = misfire cylinder 2, P1310 = at least one cylinder is misfiring). Turbo issues give stumble due to boost cutting out, but not usually misfires.
If the misfire is consistently in cylinder 2 then you will want to take a look at that. But you need to reset the codes and see what comes back.
What kind of plugs are in there?
I once had a car with a faulty throttle position sensor that behaved similarly.

Hey, thanks erikv11. I will look closer at # 2 cynlinder. I think that I put Volvo plugs in from IPD last year.
Which do you recommend?
Could I have issues with boost control valve/TCV[turbo control valve]/boost control solenoid?

Volvo plugs should be completely trouble-free, especially if they went in last year. I suppose if the gap was off ... but that is unlikely. Wires should be Bougicord, cap and rotor should be Bosch. The ignition is pretty picky.
I really think boost problems are unlikely in themselves to give misfire codes. Misfires under boost are usually due to improper gap or bad/wrong plugs or wires, not to boost itself.
BUT ... for sure I'm no expert on turbos and boost. Maybe someone else has another idea there.

Well I cleared the codes and put in some injector cleaner and car seems to run fine and no codes were thrown after 30 miles of mixed driving. I should qualify this statement that I did not go above RPM's of 4K and the misfires and codes were thrown around 5K RPM. Having said that I now think that this issue could be a symptom of bad injector seals. I get these done and let you know....

I don't think yours sounds like fuel cut / overboost, more like small misfires at high rpm. Fuel cut will not give misfires codes.guidowitz wrote:Check out this link:

Cool, I'm still thinking ignition but this is easy enough to do. Hope it helps, let us know.guidowitz wrote:Well I cleared the codes and put in some injector cleaner and car seems to run fine and no codes were thrown after 30 miles of mixed driving.
