1998 V70 GLT Exhaust Rattle

Post by MoparWade »

I have the IPD turbo back exhaust and it started off quiet. However, as time goes on I get more and more rattle, this is over about a year. It's really only at idle or very low speeds. In gear or not doesn't change it other than when going from engaged or not and back there is a moment of silence. I'm thinking motor mounts but they look fine. No idea how old they are. I've checked the V-bands and they are all tight. Any thought?

Check the heat shields that are above the catalytic converter and the muffler. There is also a heat shield on the downpipe from the turbo to the catalytic converter on my XC but I'm not sure if the FWD versions have that shield or not.

Hopefully the heat shields. Mine turned out to be the insides of the cat coming apart. Had a used cat welded in place and all's quite now. Turbo back. Does that have a new CAT too? For checking the heat shields I had my car running and using welders gloves sort of felt around all over to see if I could make the rattle stop. Careful, it gets pretty hot.

Yeah it has everything from the turbo out to the back of the car. I'll look at the heat shields.
