mysterious pop sound inside cabin

mysterious pop sound inside cabin

In the winter, after cabin warms up, loud pop sounds sporadically in my 2000 V70. pretty annoying. does anyone hear similar sound? any solution?

That's a bit vague.
Have you pinpointed whereabouts in the car is the "pop" coming from?

Don't know where exactly. Sound like from the back seats area, but it's inside car for sure. I guess it is due to cracked plastic.

I have an intermittent pop from my dash. It can be tested by moving the dash above the speedo by hand. If it pops, then you know where the problem is. Of course if it stays silent and you go over a bump, it pops much louder because over time it accumulates more stress in the problem area.

When it was below -10F over here, a cold interior had tons of noises inside. However, it has warmed up since and the car stays nice and quiet.

This is common when the temperature dips significantly. As you mentioned, as the temperature of the mounts rises in the first minutes of operation, materials expand. This happens on P80 and P2 Volvos. It's made me jump a few times because it's so loud.

Yes I to get rather loud pops on a regular basis. They seam to stem from the front seat area were I sit.

I get the same thing. When it isn't a rock bouncing off the windshield, it definitely seems to be coming from the dash. And yes, it can be quite loud/startling.

Snap, crackle and pops are pretty common (TONS of plastic on plastic) and, as was said, will change with the temperature.
If it's not too bad, crank up the volume knob 8)

My wife complained of a popping just like this a few months back. Ended up being a Mason Jar that rolled under the back seat, sealing and unsealing as the temperature changed :lol:
