There is a purple single wire that goes to my cooling fan along with a power and a ground. Does anyone know what this is for? I changed motors and do not have a wire to plug into this out of my harness. I am thinking that it is some sort of sensor and in later engines the location of the sensor has been changed. I do know in my old harnes that the wire goes to the computer. My worry is that the salvage yard broke the wire off or that the new harness is just different. I will donate $25 to the site if someone can help me with this problem.

It is the computer connection that tells the IC board what speed to run the fan at. Old version has 2 connectors ( 1 for 2 main power lines B+ and ground) and one for control. newer cars have one plug with all 3 wires in it.

both motors are B525T4, original motor serial # 2976205, new motor is serial #3406401. Both wiring harnesses have a two wire plug for power to the fan. Are you telling me that the purple wire from my fan should be in the harness and is now missing?JDS60R wrote:It is the computer connection that tells the IC board what speed to run the fan at. Yes
What year/model did the engine come out of? Lets compare wiring diagrams.
Are you using the computer from the other engine? If not , why would you use the engine harness? The ecu is expecting the harness it was made for.
I would suggest you check inside the connector ( and post a picture of it) as you may have 3 connectors in it ) .
If you do not have 3 wires ( in 1 connector or 2) you are missing a wire.
I would trace back to the ECM and find it. I suspect the engine is from a different model or year or both and you should tell us what it was so we can help you compare wiring diagrams. If I had an identical motor (year model etc) I would hook up the original harness and move forward.

I bought it from a salvage yard and it was advertised as a 2003 S60 2.5 Turbo AWD. That is exactly what I have. I am using existing computer and harness that came with the new motor. Everything has been correct except for the one wire plug going to the fan.JDS60R wrote:Yes

Only AWD motor was the B5254T2 . I would switch back to your original harness and computer as it is married to the car already .
Computer is married to the can bus ( harness is just wires but your new one isn't working out so I would go back to what works.

it seems like it would be easier to find the broken wire in the harness than to change the entire harness. The motor is in the car and there is virtually no room to pull the harness off. Are you saying that the wires in the used harness may go to different places than my original. It seems that every pin on the connector would go to same place on identical motors.JDS60R wrote:Only AWD motor was the B5254T2 .
