1995 850 T5 No start, possible fuel issue??

Post by cudatime71 »

My daughter was using my T5R about six months ago and it died. I had it towed home and there it sat, until now. I put in a new battery and cranked it up. No good. I don't hear the fuel pump coming on (had this replaced about 19 months ago with a used one because I was on vacation). I jumped the relay and that didn't work. Checked the fuel rail, no pressure, just a couple of little drips. I bought a new fuel pump, installed it, still nothing! No sound at all. I put the key forward and listen, but nothing. I tried jumping the fuel relay again after the new pump was installed. Still nothing. Still no pressure on the rail. Engine is spinning, but not even a sputter. Would a broken timing belt do this?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I would say check the starter but you said the engine is turning over. Seems like it could be the fuel filter preventing the flow of fuel. When the car runs down low on fuel it clogs the filter faster and it could be at that point. Try blowing through the fuel filter? See if you can feel your breath. Under the back passenger seat on the undercarriage. There may be more issues on top of this. Just one idea

I will try that. But I have the fuel pump still exposed in the trunk and I can't hear anything. No hum like it's priming the line.

Have you tested the relay? If that's not working it won't give proper power to the pump

Did you checked the fuse for the fuel pump...if i remember correctly it should be #2 in the fuse box,but re-check that.

I haven't actually tested the relay, but I did the "bypass with a paperclip" trick, twice. Once before the new fuel pump and once after. I also did check the #2 fuse. The fuse was fine. grrrrrrr.

Are you getting spark? A car needs 5 things to start and run.

1. Fuel
2. Spark
3. Timing
4. Compression
5. Air.

If you are not getting fuel pressure or spark, you likely have a bad cam or crank sensor.

OK. I pulled the wire that comes out of the coil and sat it next to the opening. It was at night so I was hoping to see a spark jump to it. None! So it looks like I have no spark and I'm sure the fuel pump is not kicking in to prime the line. I am going to research the forum for posts on cam or crank sensor. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I remember when my cam sensor got wet the car wouldnt crank. So I would research that. As robert said it may be spark.

But I beleive you said still no fuel pressure? That's strange

I don't think it's a wet sensor. The car stopped running six months ago and has been sitting ever since. If it got wet, I'm sure it would have dried out by now.
